The 5:30am speed walkers were blessed once again with an invigorating start to their morning! At our 7am breakfast, Anita DeVuyst shared her testimony about why she was led to take this missionary trip. We then enjoyed a wonderful breakfast of sunny side up eggs with black beans and salsa. Yum…Yum!!! Team members helped pack up the bus with all the diapers going to the center. Each month, the center uses 15,000 diapers! Amazing! No wonder donations are always appreciated and needed. It was a curvy, one hour ride to the center but all in all, our Dramamine worked. We had a short tour of the center to get familiar with all the areas. Right now, the baby room is being painted and fixed up. Some of the team members spent all day painting that area. Other team members helped to organize the donated clothes that were brought to the center while others helped with morning baths. As the morning continued, everyone jumped in wherever help was needed. Lunchtime soon came and all hands were needed on deck for feeding time. With twenty-three team members, we still found feeding all the children a challenge. It’s hard to imagine how the workers are able to do the same job with only ten people. For lunch, the team headed outside for a sack lunch under the trees. An elderly woman was collecting kindling during our break. Without hesitation, the young people in our group got up from their break and began to help her. What a testimony they have been not only for those in this community but also for our “older” team members. After nap time, Lisa Corley shared a Bible story with the kids and the children created picture frames to decorate the wall. At 4:30pm, the team headed home to the hotel. During our WOW time, it was evident that our bodies were exhausted but our spirits were high. We were awed by God and His grace. We are looking forward to loving on all those beautiful children again tomorrow. (Just a side note…the 5:30am speed walk has been canceled…we want to conserve all our energy for those children)!
