March 23, 2011 Blog
The speed walkers began their day at 5:30am minus a couple of regulars. At 7:00am, Rachel Dudas shared a devotional with the team before we ate our breakfast and headed out to the center. Before their baths this morning, all the boys got buzz cuts from our team member Jennie Silvernail as well as a few trims for some of the girls. For many of the team members, we had to relearn who was who since they looked so different. It was another warm, sunny day so the workers brought out a pool and the older children had a blast splashing around. No matter what country you are in, children know how to enjoy the basics! Today was also very exciting because since the renovations for the canary room (the babies) had been finished yesterday some of the team members huffed and puffed all morning to get the cribs back into place so the babies could sleep in their own private spaces once again to have sweet dreams! With the babies back in their space, the older children had their play room back so another fun mini-VBS was led by Lissa Corley. The team has been amazed how wonderfully behaved the children are during story and craft time. Speaking of children, we continue to be amazed by all the teenagers on this trip. They are a tremendous reflection of God’s love and sacrifice. To know that many of them gave up their spring break and ability to sleep in to serve in this capacity is incredible. We know that they will continue to be blessed by this experience which is obvious since so many of them freely share their WOW experiences at night. Amy Tromba shared a devotional with the workers at the center and Cameron sang two songs in Spanish. With plenty of hugs and farewells, the team got back on the bus to head back to Antigua. After dinner and WOW time tonight, some of the team members will be walking over to McDonald’s for a sweet treat. How blessed we all are to have all these conveniences and special treats in our lives. God has been so very good to us. We are just so grateful to have the sweetness of His saving grace and it is our hope and prayer that through our service, others will come to know His sweetness as well!
