Guatemala, Day 2 (Dec 27, 2010)

December 27th,2010
Wow! What an awesome first day we had at the malnutrition center! It was eye-opening, heart-wrenching, tiring, fun, inspiring and just plain awesome! All I can say is, “we serve an awesome God!”
From the moment we first set foot in the center it was obvious that the children were more than ready for us to pick them up, play with them and love on them. They came right over to us with arms held high in that universal sign that means “hold me, hold me…” And we were more than ready to jump right in. Who could resist those big brown eyes looking up at you?
A highlight of the day was unpacking suitcase after suitcase of diapers, wipes, clothing and toys. God’s people always give generously when they find there is a need. The donations also included 112 brand new teddy bears! How the kids will love those! As we toured the center, it was exciting to see the storeroom full of food and supplies that had been donated in recent months. It was so obvious to us that much progress has been made (and will continue to be made) in this one little corner of the world.
Our translators, Alexandra and Olivia were sweet and wonderful young ladies. They love their job here at the center and especially enjoy the time they spend with the children. They were always ready to help us when we needed a translation while talking to the children or workers.
At the end of the day we were tired, satisfied and sad to go. It was so sweet to see all of the children come out to wave goodbye as we drove away. We said “Adios!” and told them we would be back tomorrow…I’m so glad we are going back tomorrow.
