Today was a good day. We woke to another great breakfast followed by a devotional about the wall of Jericho. When the wall came falling down it reminded me of how the walls around the children at the Center keep coming down through the love of the teachers, teams, staff and all that care for them on a daily basis.
So many of the children are so scared as they say goodbye to their parents. It can be so scary for any child who is suddenly surrounded by strangers. Yesterday three new children came to the Center. Two were from the same family, joining their younger brother Hugo and sister Gloria. The eight year old girl cried so much, but this afternoon after a fresh haircut, she came out of her shell and really seemed to enjoy making a collage picture of what God created. She was so proud when we placed her picture on the wall.
Vic hung white boards in the nursery for a way to convey needed information to those who come into the nursery. Ken and Jim hung some screens on windows and doors in the baby room to give more cross ventilation, which is much needed. Joe finished painting the Bunnies’ room. A lot of other cleaning and repairs were done in our spare time.
In the last two weeks the Center has started a school for the older children 2 weeks ago and has been blessed with a wonderful teacher who is wonderful with the kids. The 3-11 year olds go each day from 9-12. With the school going on it allows for one-on-one time with the younger ones. It has been very beneficial for the 2 yr olds, as they are learning new things each day, too.
Some kid updates from today:
Marta has lots of smiles and can talk and talk about whatever’s on her mind. She LOVES to be tickled.
Edwin (most know he is 11 and only weighs 32 lbs) made me smile a lot today. He did more than just ‘wall hugging’-- as he usually stays off by himself. He played with puzzles and loved play dough--a definite WOW moment!
Henri and Roni who came in May when their mom died are doing wonderfully. It is precious the way they seem to know each other as they are close by--another miracle!
Sick ones to be remembered are Gerson with congestion and fever, and Nancy also has the same symptoms. Jose Miguel, who was brought in last week, is still in isolation because of his condition. The children have to stay isolated when they are sick, and it is hard to see them away from the other children. Pray for their healing.
Another family brought their 5-month old baby today to be left, but she was too sick and had to be taken to the hospital. I do not know her name, but God does, and we would covet your prayers for this precious little one and her family.
Tomorrow is our LAST day at the Center. We would appreciate your prayers, so when we walk out, we will know that we did all that we were supposed to do.
