Today was our "free" day. We zip-lined across a canyon this morning and spent the afternoon exploring Antigua. Tomorrow we will all travel to the Malnutrition Center for our last day with the children. Please continue to pray for us as we minister in Guatemala.
Today was full of absolutely amazing experiences! First the team rode up to a coffee plantation in the mountains to go zip-lining together. After a week of hard work at the construction site and Malnutrition Center, we took a quick break to enjoy hanging out together and taking in God’s beautiful Creation. It’s so easy to overlook the marvels of nature when you’re on a busy schedule so I think taking a little break was a good idea. Most of us have never zip-lined before so we were all getting a little nervous as we rode up the bumpy road leading to the first station where we would start our zip-lining. I was freaking out a little bit on the way up but once my feet left the platform and I was sailing almost 400 feet in the air, I couldn’t stop smiling and wanted to do it all day. We all loved the adrenaline rush we got from the experience and will never forget it. After lunch, the group went their separate ways, some going to an old monastery museum, some shopping in the market, and others heading back to the hotel for spa treatments or a nap. I think while we all enjoyed our free day, we all really miss working so tomorrow’s day of going to the Malnutrition Center will be great. I love how close our mission team has gotten; we’re all like a big family, complete with a fair share of nut jobs (I won’t say who ;)). Some of us just sat around talking about our experiences so far and swapping funny stories about what’s been going on in different groups. I am going to miss having such comfortable relationships with like-minded friends but I honestly think we all share a bond that cannot be replaced or broken. Day five was a blast, filled with great memories and funny stories that we can’t wait to share with you. (Sarah Pappas)
