Today is our final day in Guatemala. It started as the others with a great breakfast and devotional. Cynthia read Isaiah 46:10. It reminded us that we were called from another to accomplish His purpose. Our trip, just as all of our days, was determined before we even arrived. It was good for us to hear that there is no disappointment for things we had planned and didn’t get to do with the children. We did what we were supposed to do in preparing, and He honored that with a good trip. It gave a different perspective as we arrived at the Center. We went straight to our classes and helped as the other days with morning activities. The children were very responsive and so glad to see us!
At mid day the staff honored us with a small luncheon (actually a Christmas party, since we will not have a group here for Christmas this year), complete with poinsettias, holiday tablecloths, tostadas and a traditional Guatemalan Christmas drink. Each of the workers expressed their love and gratitude to us and the Gunter’s with such heartfelt emotion. We had looked at them as workers doing a job, but with tears flowing from their eyes we saw that it is more than just a job for them. They love these children so much and feel honored to take care of them as their own--a huge WOW moment for all of us!
Some updates from the day:
The solar panels were delivered and should be completely installed within two weeks. This will allow for hot water to be throughout the entire Center! A huge blessing for the workers and children to have warm baths without having to haul 5-gallon buckets of water!
Gerson has pneumonia and needs your prayers. His mom has not been to the Center to see him and his twin brother in quite awhile, and the family does not know where she is. Please pray for healing for him.
The water filtration system was updated and serviced today.
Jose Miguel was finally able to come out of his crib today.
The new little girl who came two days ago was full of smiles today. She hugged me after getting her hair done. She got her nails done and was thrilled about her pretty fingers.
A G.A. (Girls in Action) group from Henrietta, Texas had made dolls for a project that we were able to give out today, so all of the littlest girls who weren’t in school got a new friend. They were thrilled!
Our afternoon was wonderful. We all played with the kids throwing balls around, sharing tickling moments, and giving and receiving lots of hugs which made it so hard to say goodbye. There were tears from workers as we gave our final hugs and ‘Adios’ to each. We leave tomorrow richer not for what we gave but for the blessings we received!
