Sorry we didn’t get to blog yesterday, it ended being a pretty busy day! After breakfast we went off to the nursing home to finish up the work we started. The inside of the front wall is now a pretty shade of melon, and all the trees are trimmed and the leaves raked. We finished everything they had for us to do, so we left early and went and had lunch at a local food court. Afterwards we went back to the church for another day of VBS. We made name plates that said “God knows my name” in Spanish, and then each kid got to write their name on one and decorate it. Then we fed them dinner again and they all went on the bus back to their homes. We came back to the hotel and got cleaned up and went to dinner. It was Raeleigh Miller’s 17th birthday and Mr. and Mrs. Heckard’s 54th wedding anniversary, so we celebrated with a big chocolate cake that the kitchen at the hotel made. It was very good!
Today we went to one of the many volcanoes here. Some of us walked up the steps (which were quite a few!) to the top to see farther down into the volcano. It was an amazing site! After that we went to the central market in Masaya, a town outside of Managua. I couldn’t wait to get there! Shopping days are always one of my favorites! After spending about an hour there and getting all our souvenirs we were headed off to the church for our last day of VBS.
Today’s story was about Jesus feeding the 5,000. All the kids made baskets out of paper plates. We had punched holes into them and they connected it with yarn. Then they each glued five loaves of bread and two fish into the basket. They all had lots of fun. We were sad when it was time to leave, but we did get to give the kids one more surprise to take with them. They all got little zip lock bags of gold fish. They were very excited. After giving all our supplies to the church, we were on our way back to the hotel to turn in for the night! Tomorrow we are going to the beach to have fun in the sun!
