Day Three in Ouanaminthe

Day Three in Ouanaminthe
Another beautiful, but very HOT day in Haiti. All of our projects are progressing beautifully, the barrier fence is complete, the clothesline frame is up and just waiting for clotheslines, and our esteemed team leader braved the border to go to Dajabon to buy a load of lumber to line the playground sandbox. On his return they sealed the wood so that hopefully it won’t rot like the last one. We also built a barrier at the main gate where the retaining wall fell in, so now people can get in and out without risk of falling in the ditch.
Tomorrow the wood gets cut and installed, and the clothesline gets hung, and we will move on to some electrical work. All of our team is taking turns with the afterschool care, and one member brought beads for bracelets for the girls today that were a great hit. There was also a hairstyling session where the girls got their hair done up with lots of beads and broaches as well.
Tonight the orphanage had birthday parties for all the kids that missed theirs over the last few months due to the earthquake. Parties were held in the girls and boys houses and the cafeteria, and there were even some acrobats that came and performed, which the children all loved. After cupcakes and the performance, the kids were all sent off to bed happy (after a little clean-up, of course!).
Tomorrow will be our last full day here and it will also be jam-packed with construction, repairs and childcare. Please pray for the team that we will continue to be well and injury-free and that our witness to the children will be just what they need.
N’a we!
