Blog Post July 31, 2009

WOW!!! What an amazing week! It has been filled with joy, laughter, love & tears. Today was a good day to end our journey. First, we did our normal routine. Showers and hairdryers along with moms and coffee. The devotion this morning touched the hearts of many. It was about being content with what you are given and knowing that God did it for a reason.

We headed out for our final day with the kids. When we got there we prayed and went to help the kids with their baths. We played with the kids for awhile,
then around two hours before lunch we were blessed to see the most amazing thing happen. Moms, dads, and siblings started showing up at the door to come see their children. It was so cool watching the love between the parents and their kids. One of the most touching parts was seeing the girl who came yesterday, Marisol, and her mom.

A few minutes later, another group of 40 came to play with the kids. Faced with this dilemma, amazing Mrs. Kristi demonstrated Christ to us all because while we could have grumbled, she decided to figure out a plan to have us all working and not fighting over the kids. The other group turned out to be a blessing from the Lord. Because of them we got three times as much work done than we would have accomplished alone.

We left to eat lunch around 12:30, which consisted of hamburgers, hotdogs and fruit. After our meal was finished, we returned to complete our last few hours of caring for the children. The last few hours were very special to the whole team as we strengthened our bond with the children. After our last few hours with the kids was over, the team tearfully said their goodbyes to the children. It was an emotional time for all of us.

After three long days of constantly loving on these children, saying good bye was anything but painless. In the nursery, the group circled up while everyone held one of the babies. We prayed over all of them. Next, we moved onto the toddlers. Everyone was emotional as we bid our last farewells and got into the buses to make our final journey back to Antigua. Although saying goodbye was hard, the joy and love of these children has influenced every member of this team in some way.

After the long drive to Antigua some of the team were dropped off at the market to shop. We had 10 minutes to get there and about 5 more blocks to go. Now we really had to rush.We made it. We got to the market in time to buy our last minute souvenirs. On our way back we got lost! We were standing on the corner of the block for about 10 minutes. Mrs. Kristi called Mike and he showed us the way back to the hotel, safe and sound.

Tonight was Ben, the intern's, last night in Guatemala; his birthday is on Monday. We had a wonderful dinner of chicken and mashed potatoes. After dinner Mike brought out the big surprise for Ben's celebration. A fox/squirrel pinata was brought out. Ben took a few whacks at it and candy flew everywhere! Desert was served, WOW moments were shared and we went off to bed ready for our long day ahead.
