Day Three of the Mission Trip

Tuesday June 16, 2009

Our day started at 7:00 with breakfast and a devotion from Danny Langston. Danny spoke to us about success and the difference between being successful in the world and being successful in God's eyes. He challenged us to live our lives so they would be significant to God instead of trying to be significant on earth. We went back to the malnutrition center shortly after breakfast and jumped right in assisting the staff with changing the babies and administering their morning feeding. All of the babies were wearing cloth diapers that were soaked along with their clothing and bedding. Only a few of the babies received a bath and those fortunate ones did so in cold water as the hot water heater was not working. A clean diaper and a bottle of formula did wonders for the disposition of the children. Other than a couple of babies that just arrived, the mood was very joyful and playful. The men continued their quest to finish painting the center. Much progress was made but there is still much work to be done. The children on the trip worked with the toddlers and spent a lot of time this afternoon teaching them to draw. The toddlers were very receptive to the attention and soaked up the instructions like sponges. The infants and toddlers are building a strong bond with our team and each day when we leave everyone is saddened. We arrived back at the hotel to another delicious meal prepared by Nancy Watkins. The entree was chicken cordon bleu, served with mashed potatoes, salad, and rolls, followed by ice cream cake for dessert. We talked about our WOW moments and dismissed for a good nights rest. We are excited for tomorrow when we will spend the morning at the center with the children and the afternoon ziplining in the mountains. God is truly blessing this mission and we ask for your continued prayers as we complete His work.
