Final Blog from Guatemala
We spent our last full day in Guatemala exploring more of the country. We started the day by taking an hour drive to the Mayan ruins of Iximche. The drive itself was an adventure, as we passed by beautiful mountain ridges and green farmlands. We also saw more poverty of the countryside, which is still such a shock to see. The Mayan ruins are over 3500 years old and were incredible to walk around. The rocks and ruins of places of worship and homes could be still be made out. After we walked around the ruins and got a tour from Pastor Mike, we went to lunch at Kape Paulinos and had a fabulous meal. Four pounds of meat were brought out on grills for the eight of us, along with vegetables, beans, pitas, and bread. On the drive home, we took another scenic drive. Once we returned to Antigua, four of us hiked up to Cerra la Cruz (Hill of the Cross). The hike up the hill was steep but well worth the effort. Not only was the cross magnificent, but the view of Antigua and Agua (the volcano) were incredible too. Afterwards, we walked around the city a little longer before meeting the others at McCafe. The evening was spent packing and getting ready to head home, as well as eating another great meal together. As we reflect on our trip, we can hardly believe that the week is already over. We truly have received more than we ever could have given, and we have experienced God's grace and love throughout the trip.
